Overview

The Eaton SR42UBMD is a 42U mid‑depth server rack enclosure built to house, organise, and secure 19‑inch rack‑mount IT hardware in commercial and data centre environments. It is deployed by data centre engineers, infrastructure technicians, and facilities teams where a balance of mounting depth and overall footprint is required — offering more depth than shallow units while remaining manoeuvrable through doorways.

This enclosure supports 42 vertical rack units with a mid‑depth internal profile (~36″/927 mm overall depth and up to ~31″/787 mm usable internal rack depth). It has a load capacity rated 3000 lb (1360 kg) stationary and 2250 lb (1020 kg) rolling, enabling installation of high‑density servers, network switches, UPS modules, PDUs, and ancillary gear within a single cabinet.

SR42UBMD is suitable for server rooms, edge data closets and enterprise racks where floor space is constrained but deeper‑than‑shallow mounting is beneficial for cabling and airflow. Its design includes locking, reversible front and rear doors, locking side panels keyed alike with doors, and perforated ventilation surfaces to promote active and passive cooling.

Integration with structured rack infrastructures includes four adjustable vertical posts with unthreaded square holes for EIA‑310‑E mounting, tool‑less accessory rail slots for compatible cable managers and vertical PDUs, grounding points and open bottom access for cabling. The mid‑depth profile also simplifies placement in rows and compatibility with hot‑aisle/cold‑aisle cooling strategies.

In practice, SR42UBMD is used to support a full cabinet of mixed equipment — from servers and storage to switches and PDUs — without requiring maximum standard rack depth. It is not intended for outdoor use or installations requiring seismic anchoring without appropriate site‑specific hardware. High‑density cooling requirements beyond passive perforation should be met with supplemental airflow management accessories.
