Overview

The Tripp Lite PDU1220 is a basic power distribution unit (PDU) designed to distribute AC power to multiple rack‑mounted devices in IT, networking, telecom, and audio/video environments. It is deployed by infrastructure and systems engineers where a simple rack power strip is required for outlets without advanced management or metering capabilities. The unit addresses the need for reliable multi‑outlet power distribution from a single incoming feed.

This unit accepts 120 V AC single‑phase input at 20 A via a NEMA 5‑20P plug and distributes up to 2.4 kW to thirteen NEMA 5‑15/20R receptacles. Twelve of the outlets are rear‑facing to support dense rack installations, and one is front‑facing for local access or tool connection. A built‑in 20 A circuit breaker provides overload protection.

The PDU1220 installs in EIA‑standard 19‑inch racks using included mount hardware and configurable flanges. The detachable brackets support horizontal 1U mounting or can be adapted for under‑counter, wallmount, or zero‑U installations within cable management areas, improving flexibility in constrained rack environments.

This basic PDU features a switchless design, meaning there is no power switch to inadvertently shut off connected equipment — a common requirement in shared rack spaces or where inadvertent panel toggling could cause downtime. Its all‑metal housing and grounding lug support robust installation practices for permanent infrastructure.

In typical deployments, the PDU1220 is connected upstream to utility, generator, or UPS output sources, distributing power to servers, switches, storage appliances, or network peripherals. It is especially suited for environments where simple, reliable distribution is needed without the overhead of metered or shut‑off controlled outlets.

This unit is not intended for use where individual outlet control, remote metering, or environmental monitoring is required. It also does not provide surge suppression or power conditioning; dedicated surge protection and UPS systems should be paired where such features are required.
