Overview

The Eaton 5P1000RC is a rack‑mount, line‑interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed to provide short‑duration battery backup and voltage regulation for critical IT loads. It is deployed by infrastructure engineers to protect network closets, intermediate distribution frames (IDFs), edge cabinets, and small server racks against utility power disturbances such as outages, brownouts, and transient surges, enabling orderly shutdowns or transition to backup systems. The line‑interactive design conditions input power and switches to battery when voltage deviates beyond acceptable thresholds.

With a 1000 VA / 770 W capacity and true sine‑wave output, the 5P1000RC supports up to ten NEMA 5‑15R receptacles and accepts a single NEMA 5‑15P input plug compatible with standard 120 V electrical infrastructure. The short 16‑inch depth and 2U rack form factor enable deployment in confined rack spaces. Communications include USB (HID) and RS‑232, with an expansion slot for an optional gigabit network management card for remote status and event monitoring.

Integration with Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) or equivalent management tools allows centralized monitoring and controlled shutdown scripting across distributed UPS units, adding operational visibility across racks. The UPS does not inherently support external battery expansions; runtime is limited to internal battery capacity.

Deployment example: In a branch office IDF rack, the 5P1000RC can power and condition a multi‑device stack (firewall, PoE switch, access controller) to maintain uptime during short outages and provide sufficient runtime to trigger generator or graceful shutdown procedures.

Not appropriate for: high‑density 208/230 V racks, large server clusters, or environments that require extended runtime beyond the intrinsic battery capacity, as this model lacks external battery module support and is limited to internal VRLA batteries.
