Eaton SMART1000RM2U – 1000VA/800W Line-Interactive UPS

Overview

The Eaton SMART1000RM2U is a line-interactive UPS designed to provide conditioned AC power and short-duration battery backup for rack-mounted IT, networking, and telecom equipment operating in 120 V single-phase environments. It is deployed by infrastructure engineers to mitigate the effects of power disturbances such as brownouts, overvoltage, and transient noise, ensuring system continuity and preventing unexpected shutdowns.

The unit delivers 1000 VA / 800 W capacity with sine-wave output in line mode, supporting typical rack loads including switches, routers, and entry-level servers. Integrated automatic voltage regulation (AVR) maintains output within acceptable limits during input fluctuations (typically ~83–147 V) without engaging battery, preserving battery runtime for actual outage conditions.

The SMART1000RM2U is built in a 2U rackmount/tower convertible chassis, suitable for installation in standard 19″ EIA racks or as a standalone unit in IDF, MDF, and branch environments. It provides eight NEMA 5-15R outlets, allowing distribution of protected power to multiple devices within a rack. The design supports basic load segmentation for managing connected equipment during runtime events.

Integration includes USB and DB9 serial communication interfaces and a network management card slot for SNMP/Web-based monitoring and control. These interfaces enable centralized UPS management, automated system shutdown, and event notification across distributed infrastructure. An EPO interface is included for integration with facility emergency shutdown systems.

In deployment, the SMART1000RM2U is used to provide short-duration runtime (~18 minutes at half load, ~6 minutes at full load) to bridge generator startup or allow controlled shutdown of connected systems. It supports external battery modules for extended runtime scaling. It is not intended for long-duration standalone backup without additional battery expansion.
