Eaton SMART1500RMXL2U – 1500VA/940W Line-Interactive UPS

Overview

The Eaton SMART1500RMXL2U is a line-interactive UPS designed for rack-mounted IT, networking, and telecom equipment operating on 120 V single-phase power. It is deployed by infrastructure engineers to maintain system availability during short outages, correct voltage instability, and prevent equipment resets or data corruption. The unit combines automatic voltage regulation (AVR) with battery backup to stabilize power without unnecessary battery discharge.

This model provides 1500 VA / 940 W output capacity, supporting mixed IT loads such as rack servers, switches, and storage arrays. AVR corrects undervoltage and overvoltage conditions across a wide input range (approximately 79–147 V) without switching to battery, preserving runtime for actual outages.

The UPS is built in a 2U rackmount/tower convertible chassis for installation in standard 19″ racks or as a free-standing unit in IDF, MDF, and edge environments. It includes eight NEMA 5-15R outlets, with one controllable load bank, enabling selective reboot or load shedding of non-critical devices to extend runtime for priority equipment.

Integration is provided through USB and DB9 serial interfaces, along with an internal SNMP/Web card slot for network management. The system supports remote monitoring, automated shutdown scripting, and event notification via management software. An EPO interface is included for emergency shutdown integration with facility systems.

In deployment, the SMART1500RMXL2U is used for short-duration runtime (~30 min half load, ~12 min full load) to bridge generator startup or allow controlled shutdown. It supports external battery modules (BP48V24-2U, BP48V60RT3U) for extended runtime scaling. It is not intended for long-duration standalone backup without additional battery expansion.
