Overview

The Eaton SRFANROOF is a roof-mounted rack cooling fan panel designed to improve airflow in enclosed rack cabinets where heat accumulation at the top of the enclosure can impact equipment reliability. It is deployed by IT infrastructure engineers and data center operators to extract hot air from rack enclosures and maintain thermal stability in high-density environments.

The unit integrates six 120 V high-performance fans delivering approximately 630 CFM airflow, providing active exhaust at the rack roof level. It operates on 120 V AC single-phase power and connects via a NEMA 5-15P plug with a 6 ft (1.83 m) cord, drawing approximately 2 A, making it compatible with standard rack PDUs and facility circuits.

The SRFANROOF is designed for top-panel installation in 19-inch EIA-standard rack enclosures, particularly Eaton/Tripp Lite SmartRack cabinets. It includes toolless mounting hardware, allowing quick installation without modifying the rack structure. Its steel construction supports durability in continuous operation environments.

Integration is typically within rack airflow management strategies, working alongside perforated doors, blanking panels, and cable management systems. The unit includes a lighted ON/OFF rocker switch for local control and operates independently of network management systems. It is powered directly from the rack’s AC distribution layer.

A practical deployment involves installing the fan panel at the top of a closed rack in an IDF or data center to actively remove hot air generated by switches, servers, and UPS systems. This unit is not suitable for open-frame racks or environments using precision cooling (e.g., in-row cooling), where airflow must be directionally managed rather than exhaust-based.
