The StarTech PEX2PCIE4L is an external PCI/PCIe expansion chassis that extends system I/O capacity by adding additional expansion slots outside the host system. It connects to a host via a single PCIe interface and provides two 32-bit PCI slots and two PCIe x1 slots, enabling legacy and modern add-in cards to operate from an external enclosure.

This solution is deployed in data centers, industrial systems, and lab environments where motherboard slot limitations or small form factor systems restrict expansion. It is also used for test benches and mobile workstation setups where cards need to be swapped or shared between systems.

The chassis delivers up to 250 MB/s bandwidth via PCIe x1 host interface and supports full-length cards (up to ~35–38 cm). It is self-powered with an external supply and includes an onboard power switch for controlled operation.

Do NOT use this for high-bandwidth GPU workloads, multi-lane PCIe requirements, or latency-sensitive applications, as it is limited to PCIe x1 throughput and shared bandwidth across slots.
