APC AR8606 – 2U Horizontal Rack Cable Manager

Overview

The APC AR8606 is a rack-mounted horizontal cable management panel designed to organize and protect structured cabling inside standard 19-inch IT racks and network cabinets. It is commonly deployed by data center engineers, network administrators, and infrastructure teams managing high-density patching environments. The device provides a controlled routing path for copper and fiber patch cables, helping maintain proper bend radius and reducing strain on switch, patch panel, and server connections.

The unit occupies 2U of rack space and provides 150 mm (6 in) cable management depth, enabling structured routing of large cable bundles across the front of rack-mounted equipment. Integrated cable fingers and access slots allow cables to pass from the front of the rack to the rear while maintaining separation between bundles. The snap-hinged cover conceals cabling while allowing technicians to quickly access the cable channel during installation or maintenance.

In infrastructure environments such as IDF and MDF network racks, server cabinets, and structured cabling frames, horizontal cable managers like the AR8606 are installed between patch panels and network switches. This layout maintains organized cable runs across the rack face, reduces port congestion, and simplifies cable tracing during troubleshooting or equipment replacement.

A common deployment example is a top-of-rack switch configuration where patch panels are installed directly above network switches. The AR8606 is mounted between the devices to guide patch cords horizontally before entering switch ports, preventing cable sag and maintaining airflow across front-mounted equipment.

This cable manager should not be used in situations where vertical cable management or high-capacity rear cable routing is required, such as racks carrying large backbone bundles or dense fiber trunk assemblies. In those scenarios, vertical cable channels or rear cable troughs provide better cable segregation and capacity.
