Overview

The Eaton MBP6K208 is a maintenance bypass switch accessory engineered for use with select Eaton 9PX series uninterruptible power supplies rated 5 kVA and 6 kVA. Field technicians and IT infrastructure teams deploy this module to isolate a UPS from load power without interrupting continuity to connected equipment, enabling service, swap‑out, or preventive maintenance without downtime.

This maintenance bypass supports nominal 208 V AC input and directs load power through a dedicated bypass path when engaged. Hardwired input and output terminations provide a secure electrical connection suitable for data closet or small data center environments. Output receptacles in L6‑30R format allow direct connection to downstream rack feeds where appropriate.

The module is designed for 19‑inch rack use and occupies a 3U rack height, with mounting adaptable to rear rack, tower, or wall configurations. Its physical footprint allows integration adjacent to UPS and PDU hardware in IDF/MDF racks or edge compute cabinets.

Integration with supported UPS models requires connection to the UPS I/O terminal blocks and the MBP detection cable, ensuring coordinated detection of bypass mode by the UPS and safe transfer of load power.

In practical deployment, the MBP6K208 lets teams perform UPS firmware updates, battery replacements, or UPS swaps while maintaining power to servers and network switches. It is particularly relevant during planned maintenance windows where utility continuity is essential, and load interruption could disrupt critical services.

This bypass switch is not a UPS itself and does not provide battery backup or power conditioning; it should not be used as a substitute for a primary UPS or in environments requiring continuous protection independent of mains power.
