TP-Link Archer is a line of home Wi-Fi routers. Learn what AC, AX and BE mean, how to read model names, and which Archer fits your home.

TP-Link Archer is a line of home Wi-Fi routers from TP-Link. The brand also sells Archer range extenders and USB Wi-Fi adapters. You connect an Archer router to your modem and it creates the Wi-Fi network for your phones, laptops, TVs and other devices.

How to read an Archer model name

  • AC (for example, Archer C6): Wi-Fi 5.
  • AX (for example, Archer AX55): Wi-Fi 6.
  • BE (for example, Archer BE series): Wi-Fi 7.
  • The number (AX3000, AX5400): combined theoretical speed across all bands. No single device reaches that number.

Common features

  • Dual-band or tri-band Wi-Fi.
  • MU-MIMO and beamforming for better handling of many devices.
  • Gigabit LAN ports, with 2.5G ports on some models.
  • The Tether app for setup.
  • OneMesh to pair compatible routers and extenders.
  • Parental controls and basic security tools.

Who should buy one

Archer routers suit homes and small apartments that want good speed at a modest price. For an office with many users, TP-Link's Omada line gives centralized management that Archer does not.

Which one to pick

  • Small home, basic use: an AC or entry AX model.
  • Larger home with many devices: a Wi-Fi 6 model with higher AX rating.
  • Newest devices and fastest speeds: Wi-Fi 7 (BE).

Match the Wi-Fi standard to your devices, since an older phone will not use Wi-Fi 7 speeds.
