The APC SCL500RM1UNC is a compact line-interactive rackmount UPS designed for small IT infrastructure, telecom equipment, and edge network deployments that require reliable power protection within minimal rack space. It is typically deployed by network engineers and IT administrators in shallow racks, wall-mount cabinets, and branch office environments where traditional deeper UPS units cannot fit.

The unit delivers 500VA / 400W power capacity with pure sine wave output, allowing compatibility with modern networking hardware, servers, and devices using active-PFC power supplies. Its line-interactive topology includes Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), which stabilizes input voltage fluctuations without switching to battery power, helping preserve battery capacity and maintain stable power delivery. The UPS operates on 120V AC infrastructure and supports an input voltage range of approximately 92–139V through a NEMA 5-15P input connector.

The SCL500RM1UNC provides four NEMA 5-15R battery-backup outlets, enabling connection of servers, routers, switches, or power distribution units inside a rack. Transfer time between utility power and battery mode typically ranges between 6–10 milliseconds, ensuring minimal interruption to connected equipment during outages.

This model is part of the Smart-UPS Lithium-Ion series, using Li-ion battery technology rather than conventional sealed lead-acid batteries. Lithium-ion batteries provide longer expected service life (approximately 8–10 years) and faster recharge cycles, reducing maintenance and replacement intervals in distributed IT environments. Recharge time is typically around 3 hours, enabling quicker readiness after a discharge event.

The UPS also includes a pre-installed Network Management Card, allowing remote monitoring through Ethernet connectivity and integration with enterprise power management platforms such as SNMP-based monitoring systems. USB and serial interfaces allow integration with system shutdown software and remote UPS management tools.
