Overview

APC SMT1500RMI1U is a rack-mount line-interactive uninterruptible power supply designed to provide battery-backed power protection for rack-mounted IT infrastructure. Network administrators and systems engineers deploy this UPS to maintain operational continuity for servers, storage appliances, and network switches during power disturbances such as outages, voltage sags, or utility instability.

The UPS delivers 1500 VA / 1000 W output capacity operating within a 230 V single-phase power environment, providing a sine-wave output suitable for modern server power supplies and networking equipment. Its line-interactive topology includes Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) to correct undervoltage and overvoltage conditions without switching to battery power, preserving battery runtime and extending battery service life.

The chassis occupies 1U of rack space in a standard 19-inch rack cabinet, allowing deployment in dense racks where vertical space is limited. Power input is provided through an IEC 60320 C14 connector, while the rear panel provides four IEC C13 output receptacles for protected equipment. Two IEC jumper cables are typically supplied for direct device connection or for feeding a rack PDU.

Management connectivity includes USB and serial communication interfaces, allowing integration with shutdown software and monitoring tools. A SmartSlot expansion interface allows installation of a network management card for remote monitoring, event logging, and automated shutdown of connected systems during extended outages.

The internal sealed lead-acid battery module provides approximately 4.8 minutes runtime at full load and around 16.6 minutes at half load, allowing sufficient time for system shutdown procedures or short outage ride-through. Batteries are hot-swappable, enabling maintenance without powering down connected equipment. Recharge time after discharge is typically around 4 hours.

This UPS is designed for rack infrastructure operating within 230 V power distribution systems using IEC power connectors. It is not intended for low-power desktop installations or environments that rely exclusively on regional plug standards such as NEMA outlets without compatible PDUs or adapters.
