Overview

APC SMX3000RMLV2UNC is a rack-mount line-interactive uninterruptible power supply designed to provide battery-backed power protection for servers, networking equipment, and storage infrastructure. IT administrators and data center engineers deploy this UPS in rack cabinets where continuous operation and controlled shutdown during utility power disruption are required. It is part of the Smart-UPS X series, built for rack environments requiring stable power delivery and manageable runtime expansion.

The unit delivers 3000 VA / 2700 W output capacity at 120 V, using a line-interactive topology with pure sine wave output to maintain compatibility with modern servers using active PFC power supplies. Transfer time between utility power and battery operation typically ranges from 2–4 ms, ensuring connected devices remain powered during voltage fluctuations or outages.

Physically, the UPS occupies 2U of rack space and installs into standard 19-inch server cabinets. It includes an integrated LCD control panel for local status monitoring and configuration. The rear panel provides multiple outlet types including NEMA L5-30R, NEMA 5-15R, and NEMA 5-20R, enabling connection of servers, networking switches, and rack-level PDUs. The unit connects to facility power using a NEMA L5-30P input plug, typically requiring a 30 A 120 V circuit.

Management connectivity includes USB and serial communication interfaces, plus a SmartSlot expansion interface that supports network management cards for remote monitoring and shutdown integration. Emergency Power Off (EPO) support is also available for facilities requiring centralized shutdown control as part of safety procedures.

A sealed lead-acid battery module provides backup runtime, typically around 6 minutes at full load and up to ~18 minutes at half load, with recharge time of approximately 3 hours. The platform supports additional external battery packs to extend runtime for longer outage scenarios common in server room or edge compute deployments.

This UPS is intended for rack installations with appropriate electrical capacity and ventilation. It is not appropriate for low-power desktop equipment or locations without a 120 V 30 A input circuit, as the input connector and power capacity are designed for higher-load rack infrastructure environments.
