See the main ways to manage Ubiquiti UniFi switches from the cloud, including UniFi Site Manager, UniFi Network and third-party monitoring tools.
Ubiquiti UniFi switches are managed through Ubiquiti's own UniFi software, which can be reached remotely through its cloud. Third-party platforms add monitoring and ticketing, mostly through SNMP.
Ubiquiti platforms
- UniFi Site Manager (unifi.ui.com): Ubiquiti's cloud portal for viewing and reaching your sites from any browser.
- UniFi Network application: the main controller for adopting switches, setting VLANs, PoE and port profiles. It runs on a UniFi console such as a Cloud Gateway, a Cloud Key or a self-hosted server.
- UniFi mobile app: for setup and quick changes.
- UISP: Ubiquiti's platform for service providers, used mainly with wireless and ISP gear.
Third-party platforms
These tools monitor Ubiquiti switches through SNMP and, in some cases, through direct integration. Check each vendor's compatibility list.
- Auvik: network mapping and monitoring for managed service providers.
- Domotz: remote monitoring popular with MSPs.
- PRTG and Zabbix: SNMP monitoring with alerts.
- LibreNMS: free monitoring with auto-discovery.
- NinjaOne and other RMM tools: asset and alert tracking.
How to choose
- Single site or small office: UniFi Network with Site Manager is enough.
- Many client sites: Auvik or Domotz, plus UniFi.
- Technical team that likes open source: Zabbix or LibreNMS.
Setup tips
- Create an Ubiquiti account with two-factor authentication.
- Adopt the switches in the UniFi Network app.
- Enable remote access.
- Turn on SNMP if you use a third-party monitor.
- Keep firmware updated.
