Not sure which keyboard to buy? Find the right one for typing, gaming, comfort or a small desk, with switch types and budget guidance.
A good keyboard is one that fits how you use it. Decide on your main use first, then choose the feel.
| Use | What to look for | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Typing and office work | Quiet keys, wireless, long battery life | Logitech MX Keys |
| Gaming | Fast mechanical switches, wired or low-latency wireless | Wooting, Razer, Corsair models |
| Comfort and wrist strain | Split or ergonomic layout, palm rest | Logitech Ergo K860, Kinesis models |
| Small desk or travel | TKL or 60% layout, Bluetooth | Keychron compact models |
| Tight budget | Membrane or basic mechanical | Entry-level Redragon or Logitech |
Full-size has a number pad. TKL removes it. A 60% layout also removes the arrow and function keys, saving the most space but needing key combinations for some tasks.
Check build quality, such as a metal or thick plastic case. PBT keycaps wear better than ABS. Backlighting helps in dim rooms. Bluetooth lets you switch between devices.
$50 to $100 buys a solid keyboard for most people. Spending more mainly adds premium materials, hot-swappable switches, and extra customization.
