Overview

The HPE 878405-001 is a 16 Gb/s Fibre Channel short-wave SFP⁺ transceiver module built for high-density storage area networks (SAN) and enterprise storage arrays. It supports a short-wave (850 nm) VCSEL interface over duplex LC multi-mode fibre (MMF), enabling link distances up to around 100 m on OM4 and around 70 m on OM3 cable. The extended-temperature design (-10 °C to +85 °C) makes it appropriate for rugged or high-density rack environments where thermal stress or airflow limitations occur. It installs via a pull-tab hot-swappable SFP⁺ form factor, facilitating rapid serviceability with minimal disruption in live fabrics. Typical deployment scenarios include server-to-HBA connections, SAN switch ports, or storage array front ends within enterprise or data-centre SAN topologies. The module is compatible with HPE storage platforms such as 3PAR and Primera, as well as FC-HBA and FC-switch environments, supporting backward-compatible operation at 8 Gb and 4 Gb FC speeds.
