Overview

The Tripp Lite TLP608 is an AC surge protector power strip designed to defend multiple connected devices from damaging transient voltage spikes, surges, and line noise on 120 V mains circuits. It is deployed by IT and facilities engineers for basic surge suppression at workstations, office closets, and small equipment racks where uninterruptible power (UPS) is not required but protection against line transients is necessary. The device addresses the need to protect networked peripherals, desktop systems, printers, and small electronics from unpredictable electrical disturbances.

Rated to absorb approximately 1080 joules of surge energy, the TLP608 suppresses surges and clamps excess voltage before it reaches connected equipment. Built‑in EMI/RFI noise filtering improves signal stability on the AC lines, which can reduce interference in sensitive devices. The unit includes a resettable circuit breaker to protect against overloads and a status LED that confirms active surge protection.

The strip includes eight NEMA 5‑15R outlets arranged to accommodate a mix of plug types, including transformer‑style plugs, without blocking adjacent receptacles. A six‑foot (≈ 1.8 m) power cord with a right‑angle NEMA 5‑15P plug provides installation flexibility along walls or beneath desks. Keyhole slots on the housing base permit optional wall or under‑desk mounting.

In typical deployment, the TLP608 is placed in office, lab, or edge closet environments where multiple endpoint devices need basic surge protection without the complexity or cost of UPS backup. It is not suitable for primary surge protection of data center infrastructure or high‑power industrial circuits where dedicated surge management or UPS systems are standard. It also does not provide network (Ethernet/RJ‑45) surge protection or voltage regulation.

This surge protector should not be used as a substitute for UPS backup in environments where power continuity is critical, nor should it be connected to circuits exceeding its 15 A rating.
