Overview

The APC SMT750RM2UC is a rack-mounted uninterruptible power supply designed to deliver battery-backed power protection for entry-level rack infrastructure. Network administrators and infrastructure engineers deploy this UPS to maintain system uptime for servers, network switches, firewalls, and storage devices when utility power disruptions occur. The unit protects connected equipment from power outages, brownouts, voltage fluctuations, and electrical noise that can disrupt IT services or cause system failures.

The UPS provides 750VA / 500W output capacity using a line-interactive architecture with pure sine wave output. This design supports modern IT power supplies with active power factor correction while maintaining stable AC output during power disturbances. Automatic Voltage Regulation helps correct minor voltage fluctuations without switching to battery power, which reduces unnecessary battery cycling and extends battery service life.

The system is designed for installation in standard 19-inch equipment racks, occupying 2U of rack space. It is commonly deployed in IDF network cabinets, small server racks, and branch office infrastructure racks where compact power protection is required. The UPS provides six NEMA 5-15R battery-backed outlets and connects to facility power using a NEMA 5-15P plug, making it compatible with typical North American IT power circuits.

Operational monitoring is provided through an integrated LCD interface and communication ports including USB and serial connections. The unit also includes a SmartSlot expansion interface for optional network management cards, enabling remote monitoring, alerting, and coordinated shutdown of connected servers or virtual infrastructure during extended power outages.

A typical deployment involves a small rack containing one virtualization host, a firewall appliance, and one or two network switches. In this configuration, the UPS maintains power long enough for automated shutdown or failover procedures when upstream power becomes unavailable.

This UPS is not designed for high-density compute racks or environments requiring double-conversion power protection. Deployments requiring continuous power regeneration, larger runtime capacity, or multi-kilowatt power protection generally require higher-capacity online UPS systems.
