Overview : 

The APC SMX1500RM2UCNC is a line‑interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) engineered to deliver conditioned power and short‑duration backup to critical IT equipment in 120 V single‑phase environments. It is deployed by data centre engineers and network technicians to protect servers, storage arrays, networking devices, VoIP systems, and edge compute hardware from brownouts, surges, and outages while maintaining uptime and enabling orderly system shutdowns.

This UPS is rated at 1500 VA / 1350 W (1.44 kVA), making it suitable for medium rack loads. It uses a line‑interactive topology with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) to correct undervoltages and overvoltages without engaging the battery unnecessarily, preserving battery life. Pure sine‑wave output ensures compatibility with active PFC power supplies common in modern servers and networking gear.

Mechanically, the unit is a 2U rackmount convertible to tower configuration, with included rail hardware for 19″ rack integration. The LCD interface provides real‑time UPS status, and the SmartConnect port enables cloud‑based remote monitoring and alerts. A pre‑installed Network Management Card (NMC) adds advanced remote control and integration with centralised platforms like APC EcoStruxure IT or third‑party SNMP managers.

Runtime at full load is approximately 5 minutes, and at half load around 14–17 minutes, enough to sustain critical systems during short outages or to transition to generator power. The UPS supports external battery packs (e.g., SMX48RMBP2U) to scale runtime for longer outages when required.

This UPS is not suited for 208 V/230 V mains without the appropriate regional model or for continuous extended operation without external battery modules. It’s designed for enterprise network closets, branch data rooms, and server rack environments requiring robust, managed UPS protection.
