Overview :

The APC SMT1500I is a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply designed to deliver regulated 230V power and battery backup for IT and network infrastructure. It is commonly deployed by system administrators and infrastructure teams protecting servers, network switches, routers, and storage devices where short-duration outages or voltage fluctuations could disrupt operations. The unit provides automatic voltage regulation and battery backup to maintain equipment uptime while allowing systems to perform controlled shutdown procedures during extended power failures.

The UPS delivers 1500VA / 1000W of output capacity and produces a sine-wave output compatible with modern switching power supplies used in servers and networking hardware. It operates on a 230V electrical ecosystem and connects to upstream power using an IEC C14 input connector. The rear panel provides eight IEC C13 battery-backed outlets and two IEC jumper connections, allowing multiple devices to be powered within a small infrastructure stack. Typical runtime is approximately seven minutes at full load and roughly twenty-four minutes at half load, providing sufficient time for controlled shutdown or brief power event bridging.

The SMT1500I is designed in a tower form factor suitable for deployment beside racks or within small equipment spaces. With a compact footprint and moderate weight, it fits environments such as branch server rooms, network closets, and small IT equipment cabinets where rack-mount UPS systems may not be required. Its LCD interface provides local visibility into load percentage, battery capacity, and runtime estimates, assisting administrators during maintenance or power event diagnostics.

Integration into monitoring environments is enabled through USB and RS-232 communication interfaces along with a SmartSlot expansion bay for optional network management modules. When a network management card is installed, administrators can monitor UPS status, receive alerts, and integrate power events into centralized infrastructure monitoring platforms using SNMP-based management systems.

A typical deployment scenario includes a small server stack containing a virtualization host, firewall appliance, and network switch powered through IEC connections. During a power outage the UPS maintains power long enough for automated shutdown scripts to execute or for standby power systems to activate.

This UPS is not suitable for high-density server racks or infrastructure operating on 120V or 208V power distribution systems. Deployments requiring rack integration, higher power capacity, or extended runtime typically utilize rack-mount UPS systems with larger battery banks.
