Overview

The Eaton SU3000XLCD is a high-capacity online double-conversion uninterruptible power supply (UPS) intended to provide continuous conditioned AC power and battery backup for mission-critical equipment in IT environments. It is deployed by data center engineers, network architects, and facilities teams where utility power quality, zero transfer latency, and extended runtime capabilities are required to protect servers, storage systems, network switches, and telecommunications gear. The true on-line topology isolates connected loads from mains disturbances and delivers pure sine-wave output for consistent performance.

This unit is rated 3000 VA / 2700 W with a 0.9 power factor and supports 120 V single-phase distribution, making it suitable for medium-density rack and tower placements where clean power and reliable battery support reduce the risk of data loss or service disruption. It includes nine receptacles × typically eight NEMA 5-20R and one NEMA L5-30R × with two individually controllable load banks that allow selective shutdown or prioritized runtime for critical loads.

The SU3000XLCD's integrated LCD display reports real-time UPS status, including input/output voltage, load level, battery charge, and runtime estimates. Connectivity includes USB and RS-232 communication ports, a contact closure/EPO interface, and a slot for optional network management cards for SNMP/Web or Modbus integration, enabling remote monitoring and control with Eaton's management software. Extended runtime is possible via optional external battery packs sold separately.

Deployment is typically as a tower unit or on a shelf within rack cabinets where vertical space constraints or form-factor preference preclude 2U solutions. It is well-suited for core IT closets, small data halls, and telecom closets requiring robust power protection and the ability to extend runtime for generator transition or graceful shutdown sequences.

A practical deployment example is protecting a rack containing virtualization hosts, SAN storage, and uplink switches. During utility outages or severe voltage anomalies, the UPS maintains stable output and provides sufficient runtime for controlled shutdown procedures or to hold through short interruptions, while its controllable load banks permit selective runtime allocation.

This model is not suitable for environments that require fully rack-mount form factors with rail kits out-of-the-box or integrated extended battery modules; for those, rack/tower 2U models with optional EBMs and pre-installed network cards may be more appropriate. It is also not ideal for lightweight desktop or shallow-closet use where lower-capacity line-interactive UPS models suffice.
