Overview

The HPE AK859C is a plug-in director-blade Fibre Channel switch module targeted at enterprise SAN fabric architects who need compact, high-density 8 Gbps Fibre Channel connectivity within a chassis environment. It provides 32 active SFP+ ports capable of 8 Gbps each, allowing consolidation of storage array and host interconnects in SAN director-chassis frameworks. The blade fits into compatible HPE storage director chassis, leveraging shared power, cooling and backplane infrastructure so the blade itself remains thin-profile while still delivering enterprise-grade switching. This module is suitable for data centre SAN fabric backbones, replication hubs, and large-scale storage clusters where port density and reliability matter. When deployed in an HPE B-Series director infrastructure, the AK859C integrates with fabric-OS, management tools, zoning, trunking and diagnostics workflows already in place.
