Overview

The APC AP7920B is a network‑managed, switched power distribution unit designed for precise outlet control in rack‑mounted IT environments. Infrastructure and operations teams deploy this PDU where remote power cycling, outlet sequencing, and centralized control improve uptime and support automation workflows without onsite intervention. Its switched architecture enables per‑outlet on/off capability via network interfaces, helping isolate hung devices or enforce orderly system startups after maintenance.

Configured for 100–120 V AC input, the AP7920B distributes power to 8 individually switched NEMA outlets capable of supporting servers, networking gear, security appliances, and other rack equipment. Local load monitoring via an integrated current display provides visual feedback on overall draw, assisting technicians during capacity planning and rack provisioning. The PDU also features configurable power‑on delays to manage inrush current across connected devices.

This unit occupies a horizontal 1U rackmount footprint compatible with standard 19‑inch cabinets, making it suitable for server closets, IDF/MDF racks, colocation cabinets, and edge infrastructure racks where space efficiency and remote management are priorities. Management interfaces include Web, SNMP, and CLI access via SSH/Telnet, enabling integration with centralized monitoring and automation systems. These interfaces support alerts, scheduled outlet actions, and scripting for automated power control during outages or maintenance windows.

The AP7920B does not include battery backup or ride‑through capability; it is not a UPS. For continuity through utility interruptions, this PDU should be paired with an upstream uninterruptible power supply. Its function is limited to managed distribution, not power conditioning or outage resilience.
