The APC AP8870 is a metered rack power distribution unit designed to provide zero‑U vertical rack power distribution with active load monitoring for server, networking, storage, and edge equipment. IT power teams and data center operators deploy this PDU where real‑time current and power visibility are required to support capacity planning, prevent overloads, and track energy consumption without consuming usable rack unit space. The metered architecture emphasizes aggregate draw measurement rather than per‑outlet switching or sequencing.

Configured with a NEMA L14‑30P input and rated up to 30 A, this unit can accept AC feeds from 120 V or 208 V sources and distribute power across multiple receptacles sized for typical rack equipment power cords. The AP8870 features a combination of NEMA and IEC outlets to support a mix of device cabling needs within a single rack environment. Local monitoring via an integrated display and alarm thresholds helps technicians identify high draw scenarios before circuit overload.
