Overview

The APC AP7811B is a metered rack power distribution unit engineered to distribute three-phase or single-phase power in medium and high-density rack environments. It is deployed by data center and IT facilities teams that require accurate load monitoring at the rack level to manage power draw, balance loads across circuits, and prevent overload conditions. Unlike switched PDUs, this model focuses on real-time metering and visibility rather than individual outlet control.

This PDU supports a 208 V nominal output derived from a 200-230 V AC input with a NEMA L6-30P plug feeding internal distribution. The design delivers up to approximately 4992 VA (~5.0 kW) of load capacity at a maximum input current of 30 A, suitable for powering a mix of servers, switches, storage shelves, and network appliances from a single feed. Local metering displays current draw, and alarm thresholds can be set to warn of approaching capacity limits to avoid inadvertent overloads.

Form-factor considerations place the unit in a horizontal 2U rack space, allowing integration in 19-inch standard server cabinets found in enterprise IDF/MDF rooms, branch data rooms, and colocation facilities. The horizontal orientation ensures simple installation with included rack mounting hardware and cord retention brackets, helping maintain organized rack layouts without consuming vertical space used by active gear.

Output connectivity comprises IEC 60320 receptacles in a mix of ten to twelve C13 and four to six C19 outlets (commonly 12 × C13 and 4 × C19), intended to power a broad variety of equipment cabling standards found in modern rack deployments. The unit's construction accommodates robust mechanical use with metal chassis and straightforward field serviceability.

While network management interfaces and metering provide operational insight, this PDU does not include battery backup or ride-through capability and therefore should be paired with an upstream UPS where outage continuity is required. It is not designed as a UPS replacement; purpose-built UPS platforms are needed for environments with high availability requirements. Component-level metering and alarms help coordinate power provisioning in dense racks, but dense data halls needing per-outlet power control would select other PDUs with switching or individual outlet control.
