Overview

The APC AP8830 is a metered rack power distribution unit (PDU) that delivers controlled AC power distribution with active load monitoring for IT racks and equipment enclosures. It is deployed by data center power engineers, network administrators, and infrastructure teams in environments where visibility into rack power usage and load balancing is required. This unit does not provide UPS backup power or surge suppression; its core function is reliable distribution of utility power with integrated metering feedback.

This model accepts a 100–120 V AC input at 20 A via a NEMA L5‑20P connector, supplying up to approximately 1920 VA of load capacity through 24 NEMA 5‑20R receptacles. The large number of evenly spaced outlets helps accommodate high‑density equipment in standard racks without requiring multiple branch circuits.

The unit’s zero‑U vertical rackmount design mounts along the side rails of a 19‑inch rack, preserving horizontal rack units for active equipment deployment while maximizing outlet availability. Installation includes toolless mounting hardware that secures the PDU without consuming usable equipment space.

Active metering built into the AP8830 provides real‑time data on amperage, voltage, real power (kW), and energy usage (kWh), enabling operational teams to balance loads and avoid overload conditions. Local LCDs and user‑defined alarm thresholds support on‑rack visibility, while remote monitoring and configuration are supported through secure Web, SNMP, and Telnet interfaces.
