With its combination of high-brightness Mini LED technology, smart connectivity, and advanced gaming features, the television supports a wide range of home entertainment uses.
QD-Mini LED and Picture Quality
QD-Mini LED combines Mini LED backlighting with quantum dot colour technology. TCL's Halo Control System coordinates backlight hardware, optical components, and image processing to improve light control and help reduce unwanted halos around bright objects against dark backgrounds.
- Precise Dimming L2: Local dimming technology adjusts backlighting across screen areas to improve perceived contrast.
- CrystGlow WHVA panel: Designed for high native contrast, colour reproduction, and reduced reflections.
- TCL AiPQ Pro processor: Processes picture information to optimize colour, contrast, clarity, and motion.
- 4K UHD resolution: Displays compatible content at 3840 × 2160 pixels.
- High HDR brightness: TCL specifies HDR brightness of up to 5,000 nits for the QM8K series.
HDR and Cinematic Viewing
The TCL 85QM8K supports Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG. These formats enable compatible movies and programmes to reproduce a broader range of brightness, colour, and contrast. Dolby Vision IQ can adapt supported Dolby Vision content to viewing conditions, while Filmmaker Mode provides a viewing option designed to preserve the intended presentation of compatible films.
The television is also IMAX Enhanced certified, supporting a compatible viewing experience for applicable content.
144Hz Gaming and Motion Performance
The native 144Hz panel supports smooth motion and high-refresh-rate gaming with compatible source devices. TCL's Game Accelerator 288 feature supports higher refresh rates in specified gaming modes, while Motion Rate 480 with MEMC frame insertion is designed to improve perceived motion clarity.
Additional gaming features include AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Together with compatible HDMI connectivity, these features support responsive gameplay and variable refresh rate operation. Actual refresh rates depend on the connected device, resolution, input, and selected mode.
Google TV Smart Platform
Google TV organizes supported streaming applications, entertainment services, and personalized recommendations through a unified interface. Google Assistant and hands-free voice control make it possible to search for content and use supported voice commands. The included backlit voice remote provides another way to navigate menus and control compatible features.
Google Chromecast built-in and Apple AirPlay 2 support allow compatible devices to cast or share supported media on the television. The TV also supports integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit, subject to device compatibility and regional availability.
Audio by Bang & Olufsen
The TCL 85QM8K features audio by Bang & Olufsen and supports Dolby Atmos processing for compatible content. Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and PCM audio formats are also supported. Bluetooth personal audio provides an additional listening option with compatible Bluetooth devices.
For a larger home cinema system, the television includes HDMI eARC connectivity for compatible soundbars and AV receivers, as well as optical digital audio output.
Connectivity and Smart Home Integration
The television provides four HDMI inputs, including one with eARC, two USB ports, Ethernet, an RF antenna input, and optical digital audio output. Wi-Fi 6 supports wireless network connectivity, while Ethernet provides an alternative wired connection.
With Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay 2, and supported voice assistants, the 85QM8K can integrate with compatible mobile devices and smart-home equipment. Available features may vary depending on software version, connected devices, and region.
