The Eaton SR42UBEXPND is a 42U standard-depth 4-post open-frame rack, part of the SmartRack series designed to support professional IT, telecom, and data center infrastructure. It is deployed by data center engineers, network architects, and facilities teams as a foundational power and equipment mounting structure for servers, switches, storage arrays, and related rack-mount hardware in general-purpose and edge computing facilities. The open design facilitates unrestricted front-to-rear airflow and easy access for equipment installation and cable management.

This rack supports a standard 24 inch (600 mm) width and 42 inch (1050 mm) depth with four vertical mounting posts featuring unthreaded square-hole openings compliant with EIA-310-E rack standards. The enclosure is rated for a 3000 lb (1361 kg) stationary load capacity and 2250 lb (1021 kg) rolling load capacity, enabling support for heavy UPS systems, blade servers, and dense networking gear. Rails adjust in quarter-inch increments to suit varied equipment depths.

SR42UBEXPND is intended for deployment in data centers, colocation facilities, enterprise network closets, and edge compute sites where a robust open rack infrastructure is needed. Its open frame and lack of doors or side panels reduce obstructions to airflow and allow installation of vertical cable managers, PDUs, and accessories without interfering with equipment access or cooling path.

From a systems integration perspective, SR42UBEXPND fits into standard 19-inch EIA-310 rack ecosystems and supports common accessory mounting protocols. Integrated baying tabs enable multiple racks to be joined into rows, aligning with hot-aisle/cold-aisle layouts in high-density deployments. Preinstalled casters and leveling feet facilitate positioning and stabilization on raised floors or concrete surfaces.

A typical deployment would involve locating the rack in an IDF or data hall and mounting network switches, patch panels, rackmount UPS units, and cable management accessories. With accessories mounted on 0U toolless slots and rails placed to match device depth, infrastructure teams can build a clean, accessible rack layout that supports power distribution, cabling, and service access without rear barriers.

This open frame rack is not recommended for deployments requiring enclosed security, dust containment, or acoustic isolation. Facilities needing controlled environments or physical equipment locking should select an enclosed cabinet with doors and side panels instead.
