Overview :
The INTELLINET 506502 Fast Ethernet Media Converter integrates copper-based Fast Ethernet infrastructure with fiber-optic network links. Designed for network engineers, IT infrastructure specialists, and system integrators, it enables seamless network distance expansion while maintaining established copper switches and routers.
Equipped with one 10/100Base-TX RJ45 copper port and one 100Base-FX multi-mode SC duplex fiber port, this unit converts electrical signals to optical signals across a 1310 nm wavelength. It delivers full 100 Mbps throughput over multi-mode optical cable up to 2 km (1.24 miles), bypassing the standard 100-meter limit of RJ45 copper runs. The copper port features auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDI-X configuration to eliminate crossover cable requirements.
Housed in a compact metal enclosure, the converter operates as a standalone desktop or wall-mounted device and can also be integrated into a 14-slot rack-mountable chassis (model 507356) for organized high-density deployments. It is ideal for inter-building connectivity, campus links, industrial edge spaces, and extending network drops to remote workgroups. Do not use for Single-Mode fiber connections, Gigabit 1000Base-T circuits, or Power over Ethernet (PoE) delivery.
