Overview :

The HP C7974A cartridge is a rewritable LTO‑4 Ultrium tape designed for enterprise backup, archiving and disaster‑recovery workflows where high capacity and durability matter. It supports a native capacity of 800 GB and up to 1.6 TB with 2:1 compression, enabling fewer media to manage for large datasets. It fits into data‑centre or tape‑library environments (for example in server rooms, media vaults or remote edge‑sites) and integrates with any LTO‑4 drive—and is readable by LTO‑5 drives—to offer medium‑term archive flexibility. The cartridge is engineered with metal‑particle media, supports up to one million passes on any area of tape, and conforms to the LTO standard ecosystem so it can work with HPE and third‑party LTO‑4 compatible drives.
It is an engineer‑oriented storage medium chosen when deterministic long‑term retention, low‑operational overhead and open‑format interoperability are required.
