The HP Q1998A is an AIT-2 (Advanced Intelligent Tape 2) data cartridge designed for use by IT infrastructure teams in backup, archiving and retention workflows. It provides native storage of 50 GB and supports up to 130 GB in compressed mode, solving the challenge of space-efficient media in legacy tape libraries. Its 8 mm form factor and 230 metre tape length make it suitable for branch, departmental or small data-centre backup use, especially where existing AIT-2 or AIT-3 drives are deployed. The cartridge embeds a Memory-in-Cassette (MIC) chip which enables rapid access to indexed data and faster load/eject cycles, easing integration into automated tape libraries and improving operational throughput. By fitting into existing AIT ecosystems, the HP Q1998A supports media refresh without drive replacement.
