Overview :

The HPE C7977A is a rewritable LTO-7 Ultrium tape cartridge designed for enterprise-class long-term data archiving and backup operations. It offers a native capacity of 6 TB with up to 15 TB when using 2.5:1 compression, enabling efficient storage of large volumes of data on a single cartridge. With a media data transfer rate of up to 700 MB/s and an archival life rated up to 30 years, it is suited for data centre environments, large-scale backup libraries and offline archives. The tape uses a 960 m length of Barium Ferrite (BaFe) base material and supports 3,584 data tracks, ensuring robust performance and compatibility across LTO-7 hardware platforms. Its form factor fits standard enterprise tape libraries, making it appropriate for data centre, cold-storage or hybrid-cloud tape tier deployments.
