Overview :

The APC Smart‑UPS SMT1500RM2UC is a 2U rack‑mount uninterruptible power supply designed for IT engineers and network architects to protect servers, storage, and networking equipment from power disturbances. It ensures controlled shutdown and uptime continuity in network closets, small data centers, and distributed IT environments.

This UPS uses a line‑interactive topology with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) to correct brownouts and surges while delivering a 1440 VA / 1000 W capacity with a sine waveform output at 120 V AC. Six battery‑backed NEMA 5‑15R outlets provide protected power, and the unit includes an LCD for local status. Communications include USB and SmartConnect Ethernet for remote monitoring.

The unit fits standard 19″ racks at 2U height, making it suitable for IDF/MDF racks, branch office server rooms, PoS cabinets, and edge compute closets. It accepts a NEMA 5‑15P input and includes rack mount rails. Transfer times typically range from 6 ms to 10 ms during mains failure.

Practical deployment examples include protecting a rack of virtual hosts and SAN storage in a branch office or safeguarding core network switches and VoIP gateways from transient power events. This UPS should not be used in 208/230 V environments without appropriate variants or where extended runtime beyond internal battery capacity is required.
