Overview

The Eaton 5P850GR is a line‑interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed for protecting IT infrastructure operating on 230 V AC systems. It is deployed by IT engineers, network administrators, and data center technicians to maintain uptime for servers, networking equipment, storage arrays, and communication systems during utility power disturbances such as sags, surges, and short outages. The unit ensures orderly shutdown and power continuity when power quality is compromised.

This model provides an 850 VA (600 W) capacity using line‑interactive topology with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) and true sine‑wave output to support sensitive electronic loads. Power is accepted through an IEC‑60320 C14 inlet and distributed via four IEC‑60320 C13 outlets, appropriate for rackmount PDUs and equipment within 230 V AC ecosystems. Standard interfaces include USB (HID) and RS‑232 (RJ45) with a single expansion slot for an optional Gigabit network management card for remote monitoring and control.

The UPS is built for standard 19″ rackmounts in a 1U form factor (1.7″ H × 17.2″ W × 20.0″ D), making it compact for server rooms, network closets, edge racks, and branch data centers where depth may be limited. It includes a graphical LCD display providing real‑time metrics for load, battery state, and event logging without requiring host software.

Battery management uses Eaton’s ABM technology to optimize battery life with staged charging and early replacement notification. Batteries are sealed lead‑acid (VRLA), user‑replaceable, and hot‑swappable, offering short runtime to hold critical loads during outages. Extended runtime modules are not supported in this UPS series; for applications requiring long runtimes, consider Eaton 5PX models.

In practical deployment, the 5P850GR is suited to rack‑mounted network servers, storage nodes, VoIP gateways, and PoE switches where 230 V availability and short backup windows are required. It is not appropriate as a core data center UPS where extended runtime, modular battery packs, or parallel scalability are required.
