Tripp Lite B020-U08-19-K - 8-Port USB KVM Switch 1U
Overview
The Tripp Lite B020-U08-19-K is a rack-mount KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch designed for centralized management of multiple servers and IT devices from a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. It is deployed by data center, server room, and infrastructure engineers who need consolidated local access for multiple hosts without dedicated peripherals at each unit. This model is specifically configured for USB-connected devices and occupies one rack unit (1U).
This KVM switch supports up to 8 USB host connections with integrated 19-inch LCD console compatibility when paired with an appropriate rack console. Local switching uses front-panel push buttons or on-screen display (OSD) menus, while USB connections provide seamless keyboard/mouse interfacing across connected systems. Video support is provided through VGA connectors, making it compatible with legacy and common display hardware.
The unit installs into standard 19-inch racks and is often placed in IDF/MDF cabinets, branch offices, or lab environments where multiple servers must be accessed from a central console. It integrates with structured cabling using short USB and VGA patch cables between the switch and individual hosts, keeping rack layouts organized and reducing peripheral clutter.
Connection status LEDs and OSD simplify port selection and activity monitoring, providing a clear and consistent interface for administrators switching between systems. The unit's USB-based architecture eliminates the need for PS/2 adapters and supports common USB keyboards and mice without special drivers.
In practical deployment, this KVM is combined with standard USB A to USB B cables and VGA leads to connect each server's console ports. Administrators can instantly switch control among hosts during maintenance windows, firmware updates, or troubleshooting without moving between cabinets.
This model is not suitable for environments that require remote over-IP access, video resolutions beyond standard VGA, or integrated USB peripheral sharing at extended distances without active extender hardware.
