Overview

The APC AP5821 is an integrated Rack LCD/KVM USB cable designed to connect APC rack LCD consoles or KVM switch systems to the host equipment’s USB and VGA interfaces. It is deployed by IT operations and data center technicians to streamline rack console cabling while maintaining keyboard, video, and mouse signal integrity.

This cable provides a 1.8 m (6 ft) length that accommodates typical rack depths and allows flexible routing within cabinets. It integrates USB 2.0 Type‑A and 15‑pin HD‑15 (VGA) male connectors on one end and an additional HD‑15 male connector on the other, facilitating a single lead between a Rack LCD/KVM console and the target server or switch.

Mechanically compact and lightweight (≈ 70 g), the AP5821 is intended for internal rack cabling, reducing clutter compared with discrete keyboard, video, and mouse leads. The cable’s USB interface supports standard HID devices and video signals are transmitted over VGA for legacy and mixed infrastructure compatibility.

This cable does not provide active signal conversion or KVM switch functionality—its role is strictly as a passive interconnect. It is not suitable for environments requiring longer distance runs beyond 1.8 m or digital video interfaces such as DVI/HDMI without appropriate adapters.
