Overview

The QNAP TL-R1200S-RP-US is a 12-bay 2U rackmount JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) expansion enclosure designed to extend QNAP NAS capacity or provide external direct-attached storage for servers and workstations.

It connects via SFF-8088 / SFF-8644 multi-lane SATA/SAS interface, enabling high-throughput disk expansion with direct host control over storage pools. The architecture is optimized for bulk storage expansion, backup repositories, and archival workloads in enterprise environments.

The unit supports 12 × 3.5-inch SATA drives (also compatible with 2.5-inch SSD/HDD) and is paired with a QXP-1600eS host bus adapter, allowing integration into QNAP NAS systems or compatible servers.

A key feature is the dual redundant 250W power supply, which ensures continuous operation in production environments where storage uptime is critical.

Unlike a full NAS, this unit does not run applications or independent services. It functions strictly as external raw storage controlled by the host system, making it suitable for scaling capacity without increasing compute overhead.
