The StarTech US1GA30SXSC is a portable USB 3.0 to fiber-optic network adapter designed for secure, high-speed data connectivity in environments susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI). It is utilized by mobile professionals, government contractors, and defense personnel who require fiber-to-the-desk (FTTD) security for laptops or tablets without internal fiber NICs.

Technically, the device utilizes a Realtek RTL8153-VB-CG chipset paired with a Microsemi VSC8211XVW PHY to deliver a 1000Base-SX connection. It supports 850nm wavelengths over multi-mode fiber (MMF), reaching distances up to 550m (1804 ft). The adapter is bus-powered via the USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) interface and includes advanced networking features like 9K Jumbo Frames, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, and Wake-on-LAN (WoL).

Deployment is optimized for field-use and secure office environments where copper (RJ45) cabling is restricted due to data leak risks or high-interference machinery. The compact, integrated cable design eliminates the need for an external power brick. This converter is intended for 1000Mbps multimode infrastructure and is not compatible with single-mode fiber or 100Mbps legacy fiber networks.
