Overview
The HPE AM869B is an 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel SAN switch module designed for integration within HPE BladeSystem c-Class enclosures. It provides direct, high-speed fabric connectivity for blade servers, effectively solving challenges of cabling complexity and data center density. By embedding the SAN fabric interconnect within the server chassis, it eliminates the need for external switches, host bus adapters, and numerous cables for each server, streamlining the server-to-storage connection in enterprise environments. This switch leverages 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel technology to deliver a total of 384 Gb/s in full-duplex bandwidth, ensuring ample throughput for demanding, virtualized workloads and mission-critical applications. Key features like Inter-Switch Link (ISL) Trunking allow for the aggregation of up to eight external ports into a single 64 Gb/s trunk, creating a resilient, high-bandwidth connection to the core SAN fabric. This optimization of data paths ensures low-latency performance and high availability. Physically, the AM869B installs directly into an I/O bay of the BladeSystem c-Class chassis, sharing power and cooling resources for maximum efficiency.
