Overview

The APC SMX120RMBP2U is an external battery pack designed to extend the runtime of compatible APC Smart‑UPS X‑Series UPS systems in rack and tower‑mount installations. It is deployed by data center and IT infrastructure engineers to provide additional DC energy storage, enabling longer hold‑up time for servers, storage, network devices, and other critical equipment during extended utility power interruptions.

This pack uses sealed lead‑acid (VRLA) batteries arranged in a 120 V DC battery string with approximately 1200 VAh of capacity. Batteries are hot‑swappable and user‑replaceable, which minimizes maintenance downtime when servicing batteries and helps preserve continuous UPS operation.

Mechanically, the SMX120RMBP2U occupies 2U of rack space and ships with rack mounting brackets for installation beneath a UPS or in a dedicated battery bay. Its rack/tower convertible design also supports standalone placement beside a UPS, providing deployment flexibility in rack cabinets or smaller equipment rooms.

This external battery pack does not produce AC output itself; it must be connected to a compatible Smart‑UPS unit to convert DC battery energy into AC backup power. It is not a UPS standalone unit and should not be deployed without a supporting UPS.
