Overview :

The APC SRT192RMBP2 is an external battery pack designed to extend runtime for compatible UPS systems. It is deployed by IT infrastructure teams and data center operators to increase backup duration for mission‑critical equipment during utility power interruptions. This pack integrates with Smart‑UPS On‑Line 8 kVA and 10 kVA rack models to address scenarios where internal UPS battery capacity is insufficient for required hold‑up times.

It provides a nominal 192 V DC battery output using sealed lead‑acid (VRLA) modules configured to hot‑swap for serviceability under load. The pack supports stacking and multi‑pack configurations, enabling progressive runtime scaling without modification to the primary UPS head unit.

Physically, the unit occupies a 3U rack‑mount space in standard 19‑inch cabinets, making it suitable for IDF/MDF racks and edge compute closets where extended runtime is required but internal UPS space is limited. It serves as a dedicated runtime extension rather than a primary UPS source.

For integration, this battery pack connects directly to the UPS’s external battery interface using the OEM battery cable harness, and status monitoring is provided through the host UPS’s management subsystem. Up to 10 battery packs can be chained for larger runtime demands as permitted by the UPS’s battery configuration limits.

A practical deployment example is in a 10 kVA UPS powering core network and storage gear; adding this external pack extends runtime from minutes to hours under moderate load. This configuration is necessary where SLAs require systems to remain energized until standby generators start. Conversely, this device should not be used as a standalone power source for standalone rack gear without a compatible UPS head unit, as it lacks AC inversion and standalone battery management.
