Eaton 9PXEBM48RT – External Battery Module 48 Cells

Overview

The Eaton 9PXEBM48RT is an external battery module designed to extend the runtime of Eaton 9PX series UPS systems. IT engineers and data center operators deploy this module to provide additional backup power, enabling rack-mounted servers, storage arrays, and network devices to remain operational during extended power outages.

The module contains 48 sealed lead-acid (VRLA) batteries configured to match the voltage and current requirements of compatible 9PX UPS units. It supports rapid charging and integrates seamlessly with the UPS’s battery management system, enabling accurate runtime monitoring, automatic battery testing, and coordinated load shutdown when necessary.

This module is optimized for deployment in 19-inch rack environments alongside a 2U 9PX UPS. Its 2U rack form factor allows installation within the same rack or in adjacent cabinets, making it suitable for branch offices, IDF/MDF rooms, edge compute racks, or small-to-medium data center deployments where moderate runtime extension is needed.

Integration with Eaton 9PX UPS units maintains the UPS’s voltage ecosystem and monitoring capabilities. Runtime, battery status, and health information are accessible through the UPS display interface and Eaton Intelligent Power Software, providing centralized management and planning for critical IT loads.

In practical deployment, one 9PXEBM48RT module can extend the UPS runtime for multiple servers and network switches, allowing sufficient operational time to complete controlled shutdown procedures. Multiple modules may be deployed in parallel to increase runtime for higher-availability workloads.

This module is not compatible with non-9PX UPS models, environments exceeding the manufacturer’s supported number of battery modules, or racks that cannot accommodate the 2U form factor.
