Overview

The HPE 658591‑001 is a fabric‑extender module designed for integration into blade‑server chassis where server I/O traffic is consolidated and forwarded to a parent switch. It provides 16 internal 1 / 10 Gb‑KR host‑links to blade servers and 8 external 10 Gb SFP+ uplink ports to the parent switching fabric. This architecture helps reduce cabling and switching layers at the blade edge by extending the parent switch fabric into the server enclosure. Ideal for dense blade‑server deployments, the module suits mid‑ to large‑scale data‑centre environments and fits into 19‑inch blade‑enclosure racks. It integrates logically with the parent switch’s management plane, so the fabric‑extender module appears as part of the distributed switch fabric rather than an independent unit.
