Overview

The HPE 784973-001 is an uplink expansion module intended for use with the Moonshot server chassis family and is targeted at infrastructure engineers deploying high-density compute or blade server pods where high-speed external network connectivity is required. The module provides sixteen SFP+ ports, each capable of 10 Gbps, and includes an RJ-45 management console port, enabling efficient external aggregation of server network traffic through a single rear-bay interface. It mounts into the rear uplink bay of the Moonshot 1500 or compatible switch modules, aligning with existing power and cooling architecture in high-density rack deployments. Designed for data centre, cloud-scale, and large-server-farm environments, it supports mixed-use scenarios such as horizontal scaling of stateless server cartridges, distributed storage nodes or micro-services clusters. The module integrates seamlessly with the Moonshot backplane and chassis management system and allows the network engineer to allocate high-bandwidth uplink capacity while preserving the front compute density of the server cartridges.
