EXTREME NETWORKS BR-SLX-9540-24S-AC-F - ExtremeRouting Switch
Overview
The EXTREME NETWORKS BR-SLX-9540-24S-AC-F is a carrier-class, ultra-deep buffer Layer 2/3 routing and switching platform engineered for demanding edge applications, service provider data centers, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), and colocation networks. This high-performance hardware architecture resolves packet drops and throughput collapse caused by extreme speed mismatches or sudden burst congestion across wide-area links. It establishes continuous, lossless forwarding readiness for mission-critical multi-tenant clouds and metropolitan infrastructures requiring robust carrier-grade routing protocols and virtualized network segmentation.
The structural architecture centers on a compact 1RU chassis configured with 48 active optical access interfaces. Out of the box, the base port matrix enables 24 multi-rate 1G/10Gb SFP+ combination interfaces paired beside 24 dedicated 1GbE SFP fiber bays.It delivers a full-duplex switching capacity of 800 Gbps and a line-rate packet forwarding performance of 720 Mpps, reinforced by an industry-leading 6 GB of tunable, ultra-deep packet buffers. This specific AC-F deployment SKU features hot-swappable dual 650W AC power supplies configured for 1+1 hardware redundancy, coupled with 5 modular fan trays operating a port-side intake (front-to-back) airflow profile.
Powered by the robust, virtualized Linux-based Extreme SLX-OS, the platform supports highly advanced network capabilities, including full IPv4/IPv6 routing scale up to 1.5 million routes, Carrier Ethernet 2.0, MPLS/VPLS, and BGP-EVPN VXLAN hardware overlay integration. The physical switch includes 128 GB of dedicated internal SSD storage allocated to the Extreme SLX Insight Architecture, enabling network teams to run real-time telemetry captures and third-party monitoring applications inside an isolated KVM environment without draining linecard performance. Avoid utilizing this edge router in low-amperage office network arrays that lack forced data center cooling paths, or in pure high-density 100GbE spine applications where multi-slot modular chassis configurations are required.
