Overview

The Eaton B098‑048 is a high‑density serial console server used to consolidate and remotely manage serial‑interface equipment across enterprise networks. It is deployed by network operations, data center engineers, and infrastructure teams where out‑of‑band (OOB) and in‑band access to routers, switches, firewalls, UPSs, PDUs, and other serial‑based devices is required from a central point. This model aggregates 48 RS‑232 console connections into a single management gateway accessible over IP, simplifying remote troubleshooting and configuration tasks.

It supports 48 independent serial ports alongside dual Gigabit Ethernet uplinks for primary and failover network connectivity. Dual USB ports facilitate local console access or attachment of storage/media for logs and configuration exports. An integrated RJ‑11 port enables optional modem‑based OOB access when required. Standard network speeds of 10/100/1000 Mbps and support for Cat5e/6 cabling ensure compatibility with typical wiring infrastructures.

Deployments are common in wiring closets, rack rows, and branch POPs where dense serial‑managed device populations exist.
