Overview

The APC AP4452A is a rack‑mount automatic transfer switch (ATS) engineered to maintain AC power continuity for single‑corded IT equipment by automatically transferring load between two redundant AC sources without manual intervention. It’s deployed by data center engineers, electrical infrastructure teams, and facilities support personnel in network, server, and telecom cabinets where uninterrupted AC service is essential.

This ATS supports dual 120 V AC inputs at a 20 A rated current, delivering up to 1 920 VA of switched load capacity. It monitors both input sources and instantly transfers the connected load to the secondary source when the primary input fails or falls outside configured thresholds.

Physically, the unit occupies 1U of 19‑inch rack space and provides ten NEMA 5‑20R outlets fed by dual NEMA L5‑20P input cords. The device incorporates a field‑replaceable Network Management Card (NMC3), enabling secure remote management, event logging, and integration with centralized monitoring systems.

Status indicators and local controls on the front panel present real‑time input source conditions and switchover events, improving visibility in rack environments. Seamless switching occurs well within < 10 ms, minimizing load disruption during source transitions.

This ATS does not generate power and requires at least one live AC source to supply connected loads. It is intended for deployment where UPS and utility feeds, or dual utility feeds, provide redundancy, enhancing availability without requiring manual reconfiguration.
